REAGAN'S POLICIES DIDN'T FIT THE 'BRAND'

According to Schweikart, Reagan ran on three simple promises: he would revive the economy through tax cuts and deregulation, cutting the size of government; he would wage the cold war with renewed vigor; and he would address the nation's energy problems by seeking market solutions.
The result of Reagan’s budget cuts were that 350,000 people lost Social Security disability benefits. (Zinn) Also, unemployment increased which caused over 16 million Americans to lose their medical insurance. (Zinn)
Reagan spent trillions of dollars to build up its military by arguing that the Soviet Union was also building up its military forces to invade the West. However, George Kennan, the former ambassador to the Soviet Union said this fear had no basis in reality. (Zinn)
Although renewable energy sources (water, wind, sunlight) could produce more usable energy than nuclear plants, the Reagan administration made a 90 percent cut in research into renewable energy possibilities. (Zinn)

Historical Investigation Part D: Analyze

Soviet exploitation of Korean nationalism caused by the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, together with Soviet mobilization of Siberia-based Koreans, thus producHised the first Korean political movement to operate under Red banners. This abrupt inflow of “Communism” into Korean in the early era was precarious so even the concept of Communism was hazy for most of people in North Korea. (Scalapino / Lee 4). Moreover, even the some of members in a communism party in North Korea in the late of 1930s didn’t seized what Communism is because they were convinced by his schoolmate, closest friends, or brothers to do so; “Kim mentioned that the majority of the new members did not understand the party and the meaning of communism when they joined it. It was only afterwards that they could be educated.” (Koon 66) Although the Communism Parties’ leaders tried to instruct the new recruits who predominantly were consisted of peasants or workers about principle of democratic centralism, it didn’t work out well because there were even no divergence of ideologies. (Koon 66) The peasants and farmers purpose was possessing their own land since Korea was a agrarian country without knowledge of Communism. (Scalapino / Lee 44-45) Therefore, when Kim Il-sŭng started the collectivization of lands, there were lots of discontent with that, even in the Communism party; “The Korean peasants' desire to possess land was so deep-rooted that the Korean communists raised only the banner, "Land to Tillers!" Never before had they advocated collectivization in which the peasants would turn into employees of the state……Recognizing the deep desire of the peasants to remain landowners, "some comrades" in the party, as acknowledged by Kim Il-sŭng, opposed even the thought of collectivization.” (Koon 107) While some Communism parties are not unified well, however, there were also a pure Communism party called, The Communist Party of Korea (KCP) that think Communism as a primary value; “the KCP had remained essentially a “thought society,” that is, is consisted of people who were busy thinking about Communism rather than engaging in the struggle against imperialism and feudalism.” (Scalapino Lee 118). However, there were just few intellectuals who had learned about Communism, the party didn’t appeal to citizens in the North Korea.

MIDDLE-AGED RICH MEN AND FEMINISTS WHO HAD UPHELD NO FAULT DIVORCE LAW ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIGH DIVORCE RATES IN THE 1970S


First, the middle-aged rich men who had supported No Fault Divorce law caused the divorces. They wanted to be dissolved to have younger women than their wives which was called, Jennifer Fever. It was possible because of their wealth and there was no biological discord, contrast to women. (A PATRIOT’S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES by Schweikart)

Secondly, Feminists tried to find their liberty through No Fault Divorce law. Some married middle-class women felt emptiness and meaninglessness about their lives and tried to being free from housework and find their own life. One of the women who became a feminist, Betty Friedan wrote in her book, The Feminine Mystique, “Sometimes a woman would say , “I feel empty somehow . . . incomplete." Or she would say, "I feel as if I don't exist." Sometimes.... "A tired feeling ... I get so angry with the children it scares me. ... I feel like crying without any reason."”

Popular TV shows from the 1970s show that a 'woman's place' in society at that time meant change in divorce laws were needed. In the show, the conservative householder, Archie responds, "Women's place is till in the home!", when his daughter told him that she is applying for a job. It symbolizes that there were still stereotype of women and It had suffocated them at that time.

INSTINCTIVE RICH OLD MEN, FEMINISTS, AND LAW MAKERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIGH DIVORCE RATES IN THE 1970S


First, the behavior of men that looking for younger women than their current wives caused the divorces. The wealthy old men could attract some younger women with their money. However, it hadn’t worked for old women by biological reason unless they are rich enough to attract them.

Secondly, Feminists wanted to get their rights back as individual, not wives or mothers. Some married middle-class women felt emptiness and meaninglessness about their lives and tried to being free from housework and find their own life through the divorce.

Lastly, No Fault Divorce, made by law makers, caused lots of unreasonable divorces. Since it didn’t required to submit the evidence that the respondent had committed a breach of the marital contract. Besides, it had limited the potential legal defenses of a respondent who would prefer to remain married.
